Rejection misinterpreted,
Distinction opposed,
Not the right clothes,
Poverty exposed,
Vivacious boys discouraged,
Innocent girls called harlots.
Angst, apprehension, misery, tension –
Suspense, about what tomorrow will bring –
and who will be the next to endeavour.
